ICC: Georgia Provides Evidence of Russian Crimes

2010-03-18, The Hague, The Netherlands. Georgian delegation consisting of Zurab Adeishvili (Justice Minister), Tina Burjaliani (First Deputy Justice Minister) and Prof. Payam Akhavan of McGill University (Legal Counsel) provided the OTP with further evidence in respect of the crimes committed during the August War, in particular alleged commission of ethnical cleansing.

ICC: Court-Friendly NGO Attacked

2010-03-17, Nairobi, Kenya. The offices of the  International Center for Policy and Conflict, Nairobi-based NGO, have been burgalirized. Thiefs stole computers and file cabinets containing information collected by the NGO on post-election violance in December 2007 that took away some 1.5K lives. The situation currently investigated by the ICC. The NGO also received threats in relation to its activities.

ICC: Lubanga: OTP Ordered Disclosure

2010-03-15, The Hague, The Netherlands. The OTP was ordered to reveal the identity of the intermediary accused of coaching witnesses. The OTP and the Victims and Witnesses Unit will introduce protection measures once the identity of the witness is disclosed.

ICC: OTP Staff Defends Intermediaries and Praises Ocampo

2010-03-16, The Hague, The Netherlands. Béatrice Le Fraper du Hellen in her interview to the Lubanga Trial Website explained that intermediaries do not conduct investigations on behalf of the OTP but only solicit witnesses and they are reimbursed for their expenses but nothing else. She completely rejected the defense’s claims that the OTP violates its disclosure obligations, saying that disclosure of “exonerating evidence” to the defence is an absolutely new concept in international justice and that “Ocampo an experienced … a very accurate and fair prosecutor. Ms. Hellen also stated that both intermediaries’ misconduct allegations and those related to late, incomplete disclosure and the abuse of process constitute the defence’s last chance because they don’t have any other arguments.

ICC: Lubanga: Witness Testifies to Bribing and Coaching

2010-03-08, The Hague, The Netherlands. A defence witness, a barber by profession, testifies that the OTP’s intermediary paid him to falsely testify that he was a child soldier, and organized ‘coaching sessions’ on what to say to the OTP investigators.

ICC: OTP Staff visits RF re Conflict with Georgia

2010-03-10, Moscow, Russian Federation. OTP staff met with representatives of the Russian ministries and obtained results of the Russian investigaitons into the crimes allegedly committed against Russian citizens during the conflict with Georgia in August 2008.

ICC: Bemba: The Trial Postponed

2010-03-08, The Hague, The Netherlands. The start of the trial is adjourned from April 27 to July 5, 2010 to allow the Trial Chamber to deal with the defence’s challenge to the jurisdiction of the Court on the grounds of complimentarity, lack of gravity and abuse of process.
